Well, Matt and I got a dog just a few weeks ago! We decided life was still not moving fast enough :) Actually, Matt had promised me we could get an actual animal (besides fish and lizards) once we got a house. So now that the wedding is over and we have a few months before the baby yet, we adopted Sampson from a local shelter.
He was found inside a mall in north Kansas City (probably dumped) and picked up by the KC shelter. He was then transferred after a month because his time was "up" to the local non-kill shelter near us. He's around 1 year old and is a german shepard/husky mix. Sampson's pretty large...75 lbs and can easily give you a full-face hug! But not quite as large as the great danes we were originally looking at :)
He's been a great addition so far...totally house broken, but just a little too smart - he figured out how to escape the crate on the 2nd day. He's still got puppy in him as he occasionally finds something to play with while we're gone that isn't his, but overall is well-trained, very affectionate and extremely laid back. Sampson will be great with our new baby as he already loves our 1-yr-old niece and lets her "pet" him which usually means she's poking him in the eye (he also gives her kisses which she loves...sorry to gross you out, Suki!).
I'll be putting new pics of the baby bump up soon, as I'm 5 months now and definitely showing more. Everything's going great still and our next appointment is in a week with another sonogram. We'll be able to find out if it's a boy or girl, but I still want to wait and see!
