Hello from Mary Jo

Thank you, Heather, for the pictures of Carlie. Yes, modern medicine is wonderful and we're all glad she made it through the experience with no ill-effects. I can believe Ben is a proud papa. I remember one Thanksgiving at Ervin and Marianne's house when he sat with baby Erika on his lap for the longest time. I'm not sure exactly how old he was, but he was very interested in interacting with the baby. Good daddy material.

Janice, I will get some kind of a memory to you for your mom's party. I can't promise I will be there because I am scheduled for a total hip replacement this Monday. I am DREADING it, but know I need to go ahead with it. My other joints are fine, but my right hip has a "shallow socket" (born with it) and after 60 plus years of walking on it, it is worn out. My main problem is bone spurs which restricts the movement of the joint. It's not grinding pain yet, but aches and kind of locks up sometimes. I have heard hips are the easiest to recover from....I am hoping.

Now, for the really upsetting news: The roof on mom's condo was blown off in a tornado last Sunday early morning. She didn't appear to have damage in her unit, but last night there were more torrential rains and now there is water damage throughout the building. She will have to leave while they replace the ceilings. She doesn't know for how long, or if she has to take all her possessions out. She says she just wishes somebody would tell her what to do. I'm sure some of the things will need to be packed up, and who knows what the mess will be when they finish. And here I am: no help. Hopefully insurance might cover some clean up, and/or hiring someone to do it.

Glad to see more activity on the blog. Let's keep it up
