Good evening, all,
I have been intending to do this since Sue got it started, but postponed it for many weeks for lots of tasks--some consequential, most not. But here I am.
First, thanks to Sue for being so techno-savvy to get us going. I agree w/ MJ that Grandma would be thrilled at this century's version of her carbon paper letters. Her observation made me smile; I hadn't thought a/b those letters for years.
I was at church tonight for our first Good Beginnings family night. (Free supper, then Bingo w/ prizes; we had over 60 people attend) We're trying to get monthly events started w/ supper, then an activity that families can do together. Ultimately, we hope to have programs on parenting, nutrition, discipline, etc. GB is a volunteer program that I've been part of since it began in Fillmore Co. over 10 years ago with the intention of helping families with little children give them a "good beginning". It's a program that Diane Nelson started when Ben was governor. We have a great coordinator who makes home visits and acts as a quasi social worker for the many families that don't have extended families around to help these moms learn how to parent. We operate on grants and in the last year, with the financial help of the hospital (she also acts as a quasi home health nurse). It's a good program and there are just enough success stories to help us get through the tough situations.
Stan is coaching his 8th grade boys BB team tonight. The short season and low-key parents are quite appealing to him and he enjoys staying in the coaching ranks at this level.
We really enjoyed Uncle Marvin's 80th b-day open house Saturday and look forward to the next party for Uncle Winfred in April. Mark and I were standing together when UW came up to visit; after he left, Mark observed that he doesn't look 80--hardly 70. I agree.
Tim had an inspired gift for Connie this year--a gift certificate for Football 101, Bill Callahan's workshop for women at the stadium on June 2. It's a fund-raiser for breast cancer research. Debbie and I are going to go and I can't wait! If you want to know more a/b it, go to Huskers.com and search for Football 101 2006. It would be fun to have a contingent of Bull cousins there together--how about it?
Hope to see more of everyone on the blog!!
Love,
Nancy
